Current Crisis

With the withdrawal of the US and its allies from Afghanistan, the Taliban took over Kabul in a week-long advance on Monday 15 August 2021. UNHCR and other aid groups are preparing for an imminent humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

More than half a million Afghan people have been internally displaced. More women and children killed and wounded in the first half of 2021 compared to the first six months of any year since 2009, according to the UN. There are mounting reports of human rights violations that may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
